TestS : TCF family of tests
The Test de Connaissance du Français (TCF), designed by the France Education International (formerly CIEP) and accredited by the French Ministry of Education, is a French language proficiency test for non-native speakers who wish to evaluate and have their level of proficiency certified for professional, academic, or personal reasons.
In general, the TCF grades and ranks candidates at one of the six levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2)
on a scale defined by the Council of Europe (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
TCF grade results are reliable measurements for determining proficiency.
Below are the variants available at our Alliance Française Miami-Metro :
TCF Tout Public
The TCF tout public consists of three sections:
- Multiple choice (1 hour and 30 minutes)
- Written expression (1 hour)
- Oral expression (15 minutes)
All candidates must take the multiple choice section.
The writing and speaking portions are optional, but strongly recommended for university candidates.

TCF ANF (accès à la Nationalité Française)

The TCF ANF exam consists of four mandatory sections:
- Listening comprehension, collective, 29 questions, 25 minutes
- Written comprehension, collective, 29 questions, 45 minutes
- Written expression, 3 topics, collective, 30 minutes
- Oral expression, 3 topics, individual, 10 minutes
Total duration of test : 1h50 minutes , additional preparation and explanations additional

TCF DAP (demande d’admission préalable)
If you wish to apply, in France, as a first year undergraduate (L1) or as an architecture school student
and you do not have the DELF B2 or DALF, you must apply for a TCF specific to the preliminary
admission application, called TCF for DAP.
Part 1 (85′) : Listening examination: 29 questions
- Proficiency in language structures examination (grammar and lexicon): 18 questions
- Reading examination: 29 questions
Part 2 (60′) : Writing test composed of 3 tasks:
- write a message in a minimum of 60 words
- write an article to give an account of an experience or a narrative in a minimum of 120 words
write a text comparing 2 points of view in a minimum of 120 words.

TCF Québec exam consists of two sections:
- Listening comprehension (30 minutes)
- Oral expression (15 minutes)
- reading : 60 minutes – 50 questions – 300 points
- listening : 40 minutes – 60 questions – 360 points
- writing : 60 minutes – 2 topics – 450 points
- speaking : 15 minutes – 2 topics – 450 points

rules and regulations
Candidates must check in with the staff of the TEF centre with their notification of schedule and a picture ID with signature
(valid passport / valid driver’s licence / national ID card).
After the identity check, the head of the official TEF centre will take an identification picture of each candidate and direct them
to their assigned seats.
Each table will be equipped with: a guide to the answer sheet on which will appear the candidate’s name,
date of birth and candidate ID number; an answer sheet.
During the entire multiple choice questions part of the test (approximately 1 hour 40 minutes), no exits will be permitted. During the entire written expression examination (1 hour), no exits will be permitted, unless in case of emergency or health issue previously informed by the candidate and justified with a medical certificate.
During the entirety of the exams, communication amongst candidates will not be permitted.
Draft paper or notes material is not allowed.
Candidates arriving late will not be allowed in the examination room once the examination has started.
In the event of fraud or misconduct by a candidate (disturbing the examination procedure, communication or attempt to communicate with other candidates or the outside…), candidates expose themselves to immediate removal from the examination room as well as a ban from taking the test for a period of time that will be determined by the CCI Paris Ile de France.
An official certificate of results will be delivered to each candidate 6 to 8 weeks after the exam date.
Each certificate is detailed and personalised. For each module, the certificate will show the score obtained,
the level of proficiency reached as well as a commentary of the skills in general French.
Academic degrees are not required to take the TEF Canada. Candidates may take the test several times,
allowing a minimum of 60 days between two exam sessions.
