An Officer and a Spy is a fictional, but largely accurate account of the famous Dreyfus Affair, a political scandal that pitted the French establishment against Alfred Dreyfus, a Captain in the army of Jewish descent. The author, Robert Harris, focuses this landmark episode in French history on Lt. Colonel Georges Picquart, head of the army’s counter-intelligence bureau, who risked his own career in proving Dreyfus’s innocence. The book won the Walter Scott Prize as well as the American Library in Paris’s Book Award in 2014.
