Alliance Française Miami Metro | 100 Biscayne Blvd 6th floor (Conference Room), Miami FL 33132 |
For its second session, the Alliance Française English-language book group will examine the life of one of France's most intriguing and perhaps most misunderstood artists, Paul Gauguin, in the biography Wild Thing by Sue Prideaux.
The book group discussion will be led by Ann Morrison.
She is an advisory board member of the American Library in Paris (ALP), serves on the
screening committee for its annual book award, and has moderated book clubs for ALP
members. Ann is also a board member of the Advisory Committee of Alliance Française Miami Metro.
Wild Thing was not only included in the New York Times list of 100 Notable Books for 2025, the Times also named it one
of the ten best books of 2025. It also won the American Library in Paris's 2025 book award. In their citation, the American Library's judges
wrote: "To read Prideaux’s biography is to vicariously experience the life of Gauguin, the many worlds he inhabited, from his early
childhood in Peru to his last years in Tahiti, and, not least, the adventure of his art. Prideaux portrays Gauguin in all his moral
complexity, refusing to judge him, and thus never allowing us to do so either. Most importantly, she powerfully illuminates his painting,
and the struggles that brought it into being, in elegant, often strikingly sensuous prose."
Join us March 20 to discuss this fascinating book about a French cultural legend. We’ll wrap up the evening with a wine & cheese reception.
